The British Library and Google announced a partnership June 20 to digitize 250,000 out-of-copyright books from the library’s collections. Both organizations will deliver the content free through Google Books, the British Library’s website, and the European Digital Library. Google will peform the scanning and cover all digitization costs. The project will focus on books, pamphlets, and periodicals dated 1700 to 1870 that are not yet freely available in digital form.
