Decatur Book Festival

The AJC Decatur Book Festival Presented by DeKalb Medical begins Friday, September 3rd and ends on Sunday, September 5th.

Officially kicking off the festival is the keynote address from Jonathan Franzen.  Franzen’s new book will be launched at this event.  The new book, Freedom, is his first novel since the very popular The Corrections (2002).

The festival covers most of downtown Decatur with 18 venues, more than 150 writers, and many exhibitor booths.

The many events at the festival include the Writers Conference, the Experimental Writers Asylum, Poetry, Teen Activities, Children Activities, Cooking Author and Demonstrations, Plays and Staged Readings, and the Hurricane Katrina Fifth Anniversary.

The Closing Picnic is at 6pm on Sunday.  Food from some of the top restaurants in Decatur will be offered.  Food tickets are $10 at the gate and include coupons for five small plates of food from participating restaurants.  The popular band, Zydeco T, will play at the Bandstand in the Decatur square.
