Navigating the Limbo Between the Print and Digital Eras

-An interesting look at the HathiTrust, a rival to Google Books, and its 50 member libraries offering a collection of 8.2 million digitized works, including 4.5 million books. According to a new study, by 2014 HathiTrust’s digital archive will mirror 60 percent of works currently held in print by the major U.S. research libraries.

However, all-digital libraries are still not fully-fledged.  With a lack of clear copyright guidelines,  old-fashioned book lending, interlibrary loan and cooperation remain both advisable and necessary.  For the full story see:  Inside Higher Ed.
