Film Review: THIS IS IT – DVD M1630.18 .M53 2010

“THIS IS IT” was supposed to be the ultimate concert experience for Michael Jackson fans.  That dream of the King of Pop and his audience alike was cut short but his tragic and untimely death. Still, fans were left with the memories and the possibilities of what could have been when Columbia Pictures and the Michael Jackson Company chronicled hundreds of hours of behind the scenes footage in the film documentary Michael Jackson’s This is It.

This DVD runs 111 minutes and shows the King of Pop from April to June 2009 in a new, never before seen light. His musical genius is legendary. His behind the scenes nature may not be though. His intensity towards his music, his unmatched ability to hear and fine tune shortcomings in a musical piece, his devotion to the art he created, his energy and vigor in dancing and performing, his frustrations when he felt his creations were something less than perfect, his humorous side when he tried somewhat unsuccessfully to sing in Spanish are all illuminated in this collection of memories.

This DVD is an excellent pick for Jackson fans who would seek to get the bittersweet taste of what promised to be the concert of all concerts and what would have been his final gift of performing greatness to London and the rest of the world.
