Today would have been the birthday of poet Robert Frost whose portrait hangs on the second floor of McCain Library (born in San Francisco, March 26, 1874; died in Boston, January 29, 1963).
It’s a perfect day to stop by the Frost exhibit there, too. You’ll see the chronological list of Frost’s twenty visits to Agnes Scott College and artifacts such his artistic doodles and the mailing wrappers above, in which he sent books to friends at the College. The Agnes Scott collection of Frost material was initiated by Frost himself, who gave some of his books to Professor Emma May Laney in 1935. Professor Laney gave the material to the library. In 1944 the librarian, Edna Hanley Byers, began seriously to collect Frostiana – and upon hearing about this, Frost sent several first editions of his works.
