Writers’ Festival Spotlight: Anjail Rashida Ahmad


Anjail Rashida Ahmad attended the Writers’ Festival in 1997, 2001, and 2013. Ahmad is best known for her poetry, with her most popular work being Necessary Kindling, a collection of poems that explore the history of African American women. This book, as well as another of Ahmad’s books of poetry (Reunion: Poems) are available at McCain Library. Before finding success through her poetry, Ahmad attended Agnes Scott College, studying English Literature and Creative Writing. Ahmad is now the director of the creative writing program at NC A&T State University.
