Book Recommendation – ACE: What Asexuality Reveals About Desire, Society, and the Meaning of Sex

Happy Asexual Awareness Week!

This week’s book recommendation acts as an introduction to and an exploration of the many-faceted faces of asexuality. Journalist Angela Chen draws from her own experience as an asexual person and uses interviews with disabled and non-gender-conforming aces and aces of color to produce an intimate, unpretentious examination of asexuality and its role in shifting societal norms. ACE: What Asexuality Reveals About Desire, Society, and the Meaning of Sex offers a rare perspective on consent, romantic and platonic relationships, and the impact that sexuality has on everyday life from the way we dress to the way we share experiences. Although ACE does not and cannot encompass the full experience of someone on the asexual spectrum (because that is impossible to do), this book does a great job of exploring the larger contemporary issues faced by the ace community.
