From The Collection: Textual Poachers

Textual Poachers, Henry Jenkins
(Call Number: HM291 .J42 1992)

Fan activities are both older than you think and a lot more important than you think; Jenkins rejects the idea of the passive viewer and instead examines the active viewer, the ones that rewrite, rework, and remix their favorite media texts into the world they want to see. Written on the cusp of widespread Internet access, Textual Poachers is also a window into gendered readings (like the chapter on Twin Peaks) and the lengths fans went to in order to connect with each other in a world where the Internet wasn’t mainstream.
